02 Jun The Collen Mashawana Foundation partners with the IDC to Reconstruct Houses Affected by the 2022 Floods in KwaZulu-Natal
The Collen Mashawana Foundation and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) will be hosting a sod turning ceremony for the rebuilding of homes damaged by the 2022 floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The partnership seeks assist flood-affected community members of Kwadweshula in KwaZulu-Natal to rebuild their homes.
As part of the initiative, the Collen Mashawana Foundation and IDC will be rebuilding 10 houses. The
Foundation, that has to date built 300 houses in support of destitute families, is partnering with the IDC,
whose humanitarian relief response has reached over 45 000 beneficiaries at 250 sites across the country,
many in KwaZulu-Natal.
In addition to rebuilding the houses, the homes will be fully furnished, and equipped with septic tanks, Jojo tanks and vegetable gardens will be cultivated. The initiative aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to support the reconstruction of the flood-affected KwaZulu-Natal region.
The 2022 floods caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and properties in many areas, resulting in loss of life, destruction of livelihoods, and displacement. The Collen Mashawana Foundation and IDC share a common purpose of supporting communities in need and providing opportunities to access resources that enable self sustainability.
“The partnership with the IDC is a significant step towards restoring a sense of normalcy to more of the affected families in the region,” said Collen Mashawana, the founder of the Collen Mashawana Foundation. “We are committed to contributing to the reconstruction efforts in the affected areas of KwaZulu-Natal and helping improve the lives of those families who have been most affected by the 2022 floods,” adds Mashawana.
“This collaboration is aligned to IDC’s standing commitment to support communities affected by natural disasters, amongst other things. We believe that through partnerships, we can measurably contribute to building a better South Africa for our people and communities, especially those in remote and rural areas,” says Tshepo Ramodibe, the IDC’s Head of Corporate Affairs.
The Collen Mashawana Foundation would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for supporting the initiative to aid in the reconstruction of households affected by the 2022 floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The commitment and contribution of IDC towards this initiative is deeply appreciated.
