05 Dec IDC Welcomes appointment of its first woman CEO
Johannesburg – The Board of Directors of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is pleased to announce that Cabinet, at its meeting on 04 December 2024, approved the Board’s recommendation to appoint Ms. Mmakgoshi Lekhethe as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the IDC.
Ms. Lekhethe is an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience in the public finance sector and a demonstrated history of executive leadership roles in international financial institutions, multilateral development banks, and global economic bodies (G20, WEF, BRICS). Domestically and regionally, she has spearheaded economic and financial sector integration and currently serves as an Executive Manager at National Treasury, as the Deputy Director-General: Asset and Liability Management.
Ms. Lekhethe holds a BCom (Economics) degree from the University of Durban Westville, a BCom Hons (Economics) from the University of the Witwatersrand, and an MSc (International Economics) from the University of London, SOAS, UK.

Ms Mabuza extended the Board’s warm welcome to Ms. Lekhethe as she embarks on this exciting journey as the IDC CEO.

The continuity and stability of the IDC during this interim period will serve as a strong foundation for Ms. Lekhethe to build upon”, she said.
Commenting on the appointment of Ms. Lekhethe, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic) lauded her appointment as a historic milestone for South Africa.
Minister Tau said this development reflects governments commitment to promoting gender diversity and representation in leadership roles.
“Ms. Lekhete’s extensive experience and leadership experience will undoubtedly advance the IDC’s critical role in driving industrial development and economic transformation,” said Minister Tau.
