10 May IDC AND IMBUMBA FOUNDATION EXTEND DISASTER RELIEF IN KZN FLOODING INCIDENT
The IDC, in partnership with the Imbumba Foundation, will be providing food, baby and dignity packs, as well as school packs to over 900 families in Ongengele, Mtubatuba. Learners from the Isigcino Primary and Nkosana High School will also receive school uniforms and stationery to assist with getting them back on track with their schooling.
The need for humanitarian aid has increased significantly with the routine flooding that has affected livelihoods and food security for many communities. The Imbumba Foundation, nonprofit organisation that aims achieve social change and economic upliftment in rural and marginalised communities, and IDC have a standing partnership that has been providing humanitarian relief to thousands of families across South Africa such as food packs, blankets and more to support the most vulnerable in marginalised rural areas.
“Our role in society goes beyond being a catalyst for the country’s economy. We are also strongly committed to assisting our fellow citizens with humanitarian aid. Timely humanitarian response and partnering with organizations such as the Imbumba Foundation are key
enablers for us to lend a helping hand to our communities and provide relief where it is needed most,” stated Tshepo Ramodibe, Head of Corporate Affairs at IDC.
The IDC has invested almost R43 million in humanitarian aid since 2022, with a significant contribution of close to R12 million in the current financial year. The Imbumba Foundation in partnership with the IDC has to date supported thousands of distressed families and
communities across South Africa.
In December 2023, areas of Northern KwaZulu-Natal experienced devasting flash flooding. The heavy rains have persisted intermittently through the province since then, causing further devastation and hindering the recovery of these areas. In January this year, areas around Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal – many of these still recovering from the 2022 flooding – have experienced new devastation with the severe storm systems and flooding.
