Small electronics business aims to be innovative industry leader with IDC support

Screamer Electronic Services (Pty) Ltd prides itself in being the only BBBEE telecommunication equipment repair and services company in South Africa. The company’s biggest share (62%) is owned by Ms. Lindiwe Mokone, while her business partners Mr. Gavin Hart and Mr. Paul Sillifant hold 35% and 3% respectively.

The company – a fully licensed Internet Service Provider, providing Internet and Voice and Virtual Private Network services to the South African residential and corporate markets – also specializes in receiving, storing and repairing high end electronic products. Its extended range of services includes warehousing, labelling and packaging of buffer stock, as well as product identification and cataloguing. The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has approved a loan funding of R64 million, part of which the company will use to purchase high-end test and repair equipment.

“We currently have a contract with Telkom to service its telecommunication equipment with an average monthly revenue of R5 million, which is projected to increase. We have also recently been enlisted by Vodacom to maintain its telecommunication equipment and as part of a new business development, we are undergoing a proof of concept with MTN to maintain and repair some of its telecommunication equipment. “We aim to be an industry leader and a progressive electronics services company where innovation and quality are standard” the company said.

The IDC saw this investment as a worthwhile opportunity that will contribute to job creation in the technology sector, “By approving this loan facility, we are supporting a technology company owned by a black woman, is a downstream service provider to the optics fibre infrastructure industry, and has a prospect of creating 225 jobs” the corporation said.
