07 May Sharing ideas on youth-owned businesses
The Development Impact Support department took part in the Youth Dialogue on “Igniting Growth and Access to Markets in Business Incubation” in Bryanston last week. The dialogue is part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for all citizens to share in the responsibility to build a small business support ecosystem that assists, nourishes and promotes entrepreneurship.
Senior Specialist, Daniel van Vuuren joined one of the panels that shared ideas and knowledge on ‘Identifying opportunities for youth entrepreneurship’, “There may be a gap in the market, but you need to make sure that there’s a market in the gap. There may be a good reason for that gap in the market and why no one had tried to conquer it,” van Vuuren said. Another panel shared ideas on ‘Identifying effective agencies to support small businesses and entrepreneurs during their stages of development’.
The initiative was hosted in in collaboration with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and South African Business and Technology Incubation Association (SABTIA) and brought together government, industry experts and the youth to reflect on the importance of small business incubations that are aimed at promoting youth entrepreneurship.
