The IDC @ work

Promoting Women's Development in the Workplace

womenThe IDC recognises the strategic imperative to provide for and focus on the development and growth of women in the workplace.

  • To provide opportunities for women to progress in the organisation
  • To ensure progression of women enabling sufficient representation at the various organisational bands, particularly professional, management and executive levels
  • To provide focused Women's development to attract and retain professional women
  • To support the achievement of employment equity objectives where the need to appoint/promote women has been identified
  • To promote employer of choice recognition by ensuring equity and representation of women

This represents just the start of women's development at the IDC and more interventions are planned over the coming months. The Executive Team, together with the Board through Human Capital Internal Learning and Development, have paid specific attention to this strategy, with the following end results:

  • The IDC Executive Committee recently approved the roll-out of four key learning and development programmes, namely:
    • Senior Management Women's Development Programme
    • Professional Women's Development Programme
    • Creating Personal Capacity and Leadership for Women
    • Self Leadership for Women

  • Each woman employee in the IDC has been given the opportunity to apply for the respective programmes
  • Around 80 women will participate in the various programmes - collectively these programmes will provide a development opportunity to over 30% of IDC women employees
  • The training is not limited to a particular level in the organisation as the programmes cater for development of women across all bands in the organisation
  • Each of the programmes will have a coaching and mentoring component attached whereby the skills learned and developed will enable these women to mentor and coach other women in the organisation
