For those SMEs looking to secure finance for their transport sector projects, the IDC's Transport, Financial Services and Other SBU considers each proposal on its particular merit. Preference is given to emerging or established entrepreneurs wishing to raise finance for a minimum loan of R1 million, or a minimum of R500 000.00 for bridging facilities for specific contracts, or a minimum of R5 million for equity related transactions. Applicants must be able to demonstrate economic viability of the proposed transaction. Whilst each business proposal is considered on economic viability and sustainability in the above sectors, preference will be given to projects or transactions which comply with the following requirements:

The primary focus of the Metal, Transport and Machinery SBU is to develop and support viable downstream producers within the South African metals, transport and machinery sectors. It operates in the following focus areas:
